The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
