Vehicles in German Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Authorities stated they were alerted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then found multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.

City officials announced they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
